Historian Intern Authored Cultural Landscape Report: This project will provide a unique opportunity for a historian to apply their knowledge in a national park and on two units of the national trails system. This project will hire and use a historian intern to complete a Cultural Landscape Report (CLR) of the area of C&O Canal National Historical Park adjacent to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. At the conclusion of this internship, the historian will provide the C&O Canal Trust with a completed CLR, which can be used not only to further protect the Park's cultural and natural resources, but also to disseminate information about those resources to the public, either directly through educational programs. The CLR will also be used as an environmental study to educate and inform future interpretation and planning efforts in the area. The CLR will be provided to the National Trails System units in the study area for their educational and planning purposes as well. The document will also include a Visual Resource Assessment in the appendix for the confluence and will document and assess the scenic quality of selected viewpoints toward the Gap of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers for a larger area beyond the CLR study boundaries.Funding through this task agreement will support historian intern staffing of the Cultural Landscape Report project.
