Human Pancreas Procurement and Analysis Program (HPPAP) (UC4): This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites cooperative agreement applications to develop and operate a Human Pancreas Procurement and Analysis Program (HPPAP). This FOA will support the assembly of a team of investigators with combined expertise in human pancreas physiology and pathophysiology; collection, analysis and distribution of human pancreatic tissues; and analysis and integration of complex biological datasets, that will be tasked to: 1) collect and intensively characterize primary pancreatic tissues from patients with T1D, pre-T1D (i.e. positive for multiple islet autoantibodies) or rare forms of islet dysfunction, 2) distribute these specimens and their extensive linked data to the larger research community for expanded analysis, and 3) organize the data collected from the study of these tissues into an open-access resource database (PANC DB). HPPAP will become a component of the Human Islet Research Network (HIRN) created in 2014 to support innovative and collaborative translational research to understand how human beta cells are lost in T1D, and to find innovative strategies to protect and replace functional human beta cell mass.
