Immunobiology of Xenotransplantation (U19 Clinical Trial Not Allowed): This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications from institutions to participate in the Immunobiology of Xenotransplantation Cooperative Research Program (IXCRP), for the development of preclinical porcine-to-nonhuman primate (NHP) models of pancreatic islet, kidney, heart, lung, or liver xenotransplantation. The goals of this program are to: (1) delineate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of xenograft rejection and/or the induction of immune tolerance; (2) develop effective strategies to improve xenograft survival; and (3) characterize and address the physiological compatibility/limitations of xenografts. The long-term goal of this program is to develop strategies for application of xenotransplantation in the clinic.
