Improving Patient Safety through Simulation Research: - The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is interested in funding research and evaluation of simulation and the roles it can play in improving the safe delivery of health care. Simulation is described as a strategy not a technology to mirror, anticipate, or amplify real situations with guided experiences in a fully interactive way. Simulation can complement other organizational change methods to facilitate adoption and implementation of best practices and new technologies. In these projects, AHRQ is interested in the use of and/or adaptation of simulation tools in diverse health care settings and the evaluation of its impact on improving patient safety.-Total amount to available for awards: $2,400,000.-AHRQ intends to fund eight to ten new grants.-Type of mechanism: U18.-Eligible organizations: You may submit (an) application(s) if your domestic organization is a:-Public or non-profit private institution, such as a university, college, or a faith-based or community-based organization;-Unit of local or State government;-Unit of local Tribal government or State Tribal government; and,-Eligible agency of the Federal government.-For the purpose For-profit organizations and foreign institutions are not eligible to apply for these grants. However, they may participate in projects as members of consortia or as subcontractors.-Eligible Principal Investigators (PI): The PI should be an experienced senior level individual familiar with the use of simulation in health care settings. This individual should devote a considerable portion of his/her time to the project (at least 20% through the project duration).

- Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply. Eligible agencies of the Federal Government are eligible to apply. -Because these projects are not intended to promote a particular commercial product, for-profit organizations are not eligible to apply for grants. However, for-profit organizations may participate in projects as members of consortia or as subcontractors. -Because this FOA is principally intended to increase the use of simulation in the U.S., foreign institutions are not eligible to apply for grants. However, foreign institutions may participate in projects as members of consortia or as subcontractors. Applications submitted by for-profit organizations and foreign institutions will be returned without review. Organizations described in section 501(c) 4 of the Internal Revenue Code that engage in lobbying are not eligible.
