- Eligible Applicant: Only the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Jordan is eligible to apply for assistance. No other applications are solicited. The Jordanian Ministry of Health is the most appropriate and qualified agency to conduct the activities specified under this cooperative agreement because: The Jordanian Ministry of Health is the only institution in Jordan with the authority to conduct disease surveillance and respond to health threats throughout the Kingdom of Jordan. Moreover, it possesses the requisite scientific and technical expertise, together with the service and administrative infrastructure. These combined attributes make the Ministry uniquely qualified as the only organization in Jordan capable of effectively conducting the public-health program activities proposed for this cooperative agreement.
- Grant Description
- The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to accomplish the following: 1. To strengthen the expertise of Jordanian and U.S. health and medical scientists and professionals by supporting multiple collaborative programs with HHS; 2. To strengthen the practice of public health in Jordan through helping to develop epidemiological surveillance systems and laboratory diagnosis and response capacity for priority diseases and health conditions; 3. To provide training for public-health professionals in applied epidemiology, applied health science, the planning of public-health programs, monitoring, implementation and evaluation and other related areas, such as data-collection, financial planning and management; 4. To strengthen the institutional capacity of the Jordanian Ministry of Health to plan, implement and evaluate public-health programs; conduct disease-surveillance; and manage disease-prevention, -detection and -control efforts; 5. To conduct operational assessments and analyses on priority public-health problems in Jordan by incorporating the results of findings into disease prevention and control programs, sharing expertise and lessons learned with appropriate institutions nationally, regionally and internationally.
