MARC Curricular Improvement Implementation-PHASE II: - This initiative provides, by way of a competing award, an opportunity to implement significant innovative curricular improvement plans to incorporate and seamlessly integrate knowledge and application of quantitative (mathematical, physical, engineering and information) sciences into the curricula of biological sciences at Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) U*STAR grantee institutions (http://www.nigms.nih.gov/minority/marc.html). - The total amount available for this award over a five year period will be $12.5 million. - Up to ten awards will be made, each with up to a five year term. It is anticipated that the average grant award will be $250,000 per year in direct cost. - The MARC T36 Ancillary Training Activities grant mechanism will be used. - Eligible organizations for this one-time funding opportunity are those that have a current MARC U*STAR grant, have received a MARC Phase I Curricular Improvement Planning supplement, and have participated in the MARC Winter Institute on Curricular Improvement. - Tenured or tenure-track faculty members at eligible MARC institutions who have well-documented experience in conducting research, research training, and teaching, as well as an interest in interdisciplinary, quantitative approaches to investigate biological or biomedical problems may serve as the Project Director (PD) of the proposed Phase II Curricular Improvement Implementation grant application. Because the nature of this RFA, the Phase II Curricular Improvement Implementation Project Director does not need to be the Program Director for the institution's MARC U*STAR grant. - An eligible institution may submit only one application for this grant and if awarded, hold only one Phase II grant. - See Section IV.1 for application materials. - Telecommunications for the hearing impaired is available at: TTY 301-451-0088
