- Grant Description
- Agence Nationale des Parcs Nationaux (ANPN), the Gabon National Parks Agency, is a unique parastatal agency granted financial and technical independence by the Gabonese law that created it. ANPN is charged with transforming Gabons national parks network into a global model for protected areas management. This charge includes stimulating the development of a tourism industry, combining sustainable development and conservation to enhance, rather than simply maintain, the geophysical character of a tourism site. ANPN also leads research and capacity building efforts in Gabons 13 national parks and their buffer zones. ANPN's special role in government will give the USFWS MENTOR-FOREST Fellowship Program access to national and regional decision-makers. It will provide opportunities for the new curriculum developed through MENTOR-FOREST to become institutionalize at training institutions in Central Africa.
