Medical Practice Initiative Procedural Skill Decay and Maintenance (MPI-PSD): Applications for the Medical Practice Initiative Procedural Skill Decay and Maintenance (MPI-PSD) Program Announcement (PA) are being solicited by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Defense Health Program (DHP). The MPI-PSD Program Announcement is issued and awarded by the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA) and managed by the Army's Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC.) The intent and desired outcome of the research activities described in this Program Announcement is to conduct research regarding degradation of outpatient or inpatient procedural skills as related to the frequency of performance of a procedure. The Medical Practice Initiative is primarily focused on the development of medical training systems and competency assessment tools for the sustainment of military medical readiness. The preliminary (2-3 years) focus will be on determining the viability of extracting relevant metrics from existing data for use in the determination of skills degradation and using this data to assist in identifying gaps. The data collected in the course of this research will aid both public and private sector organizations in their efforts to improve the quality of care provided in the outpatient setting.
