Methods of Statistical Analysis ofDNA Sequence Data for Studies Relating Variation to Disease (R01): -Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will encourage the development of novel methods of statistical analysis of DNA sequence data in studies that aim to relate genetic variation to disease. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, designing sequencing studies and statistical methods for relating the variation to phenotype; assessing the significance of the associations; incorporating population genetic factors such as population history, admixture, and natural selection; and finding sets of variants that may include functional variants. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will use the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NIH has committed $2 million total costs in FY 2008 ($6 million over the total project period of three years) to fund applications in response to this FOA.Five to six awards are anticipated to be funded under this FOA, at up to $250,000 direct costs per year per award, plus applicable Facilities and Administrative (F and A) costs. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. The total project period for an application submitted in response to this FOA may be up to three years.
