Microhole Technology Development: The goals of the Department of Energy's FossilEnergy Oil Program are derivedfrom the National need for increased oil production as a part of thenationalsecurity, requirements for Federal lands stewardship and increasedprotectionof the environment. Microhole Technology supports these goals.Approximately2/3rds of all the oil discovered in the United States remains in theground.Of that over half (218 Billion Barrels) is in reservoirs shallower than5,000feet. Over 20,000 shallow development wells are drilled annually in theUSA.Micro Hole Technology directly targets the exploitation andcharacterization ofshallow fields by improving the recovery efficiency of the shallowdevelopmentwells. In addition, the program supports the National Energy Policy goalstoincrease domestic oil exploration through continued partnership with publicandprivate entities and to promote enhanced oil recovery from existing wellsthrough new technology. By providing demonstrations of new technologiesandapproaches that improve oil recovery and increase hydrocarbon reserves theoilprogram will augment the domestic oil supply. The solicitation has two separate Areas of Interest:Area 1 --Field DemonstrationArea 1 is a field demonstration of existing commercial microhole technologyandapplications in different regions of the United States. The purpose of Area1is to show the exploration and production (E&P) community contemporarymicrohole capabilities, generate interest and gain industry acceptance. Tosubmit an application to this Area of Interest, please click on thefollowinglink:https://e-center.doe.gov/IIPS/busopor.nsf/1be0f2271893ba198525644b006bc0be/10d4fe1ebf7290fe85256db10046b1b0?OpenDocumentArea 2 --Technology DevelopmentArea 2 is comprised of four (4) separate Technical Topics: (A) Built ForPurpose Microhole Coiled Tubing Rig (MCTR); (B) Self-Contained "ZeroDischarge"Drilling Mud System; (C) Microhole Coiled Tubing Bottom Hole Assemblies; or(D)Microhole Completion and Production Equipment. In Area 2 new tools will be developed and manufactured that will enableoilfield service companies to bridge the gap from existing commercialtechnology to the Microhole Technology goal. Proposed projects mustaddressonly one specific topic and identify a problem the E&P community haswithcontemporary microhole capabilities.Applications must target only one (1) of the following four (4) TechnicalTopics:DE-PS26-03NT15392-2A: Built for Purpose Microhole Coiled Tubing Rig (MCTR)The MCTR will handle 1" through 2 3/8" coiled tubing. The rigwill be able todrill and case surface, intermediate, production and liner hole intervals.Therig will be able to drill with coiled tubing and conventional rotary or topdrive. The rig will be able to run at a minimum 7 5/8" range 2casing. TheMCTR may be truck, trailer or skid mounted and meet USDOT limitations. TheMCTR may be more than one load. If skid mounted the rig must behelitransportable. The MCTR must be readily adaptable to support low-costdirectional drilling and through-tubing micro-lateral drilling fromexistingwells. The MCTR must be able to drill with low density, compressibledrillingfluids. The MCTR design will facilitate quick reel or coiled tubingchanges inthe field. If skid mounted it will be helitransportable. The mud systemmaybe more than one load. The mud system will be compatible with the MCTR.Themud system will be able to mix, circulate downhole, clean and hold dieselorwater based drilling mud. The mud system will have a minimum 200 bbl totalcapacity with active, reserve and trip tanks. The mud pump will be from astandard oilfield equipment manufacturer and be capable of circulating 15gpmat 5,000 psi and 500 gpm at 1,000 psi. The mud system will have a solidscontrol system capable of continuously separating the drill solids and"fine"low gravity drill solids. The mud system must be compatible with anunderbalanced drilling system.
