Movements and Genetics of Red Knots: This announcement is for the continuation of a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Region 2 Fiscal Year 2011 project addressing the conservation of birds (USFWS Birds of Conservation Concern 2008; USFWS Birds of Management Concern 2011), and is not a request for applications (See Notice of Intent to Award Without Competition - contact Bill Howe for copy). This project will continue a cooperative effort among researchers at the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the Texas Chapter of the National Audubon Society, the USFWS Region 2 Divisions of Migratory Birds and Ecological Services, and multiple local individuals. The goals of the project is to determine the distribution, migration patterns, and subspecific affiliations of the Red Knot (Calidris canutus) on the Texas coast during migration and winter, and to determine wintering and breeding regions of Knots migrating along the Texas coast.
