NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND Grant: The primary objective of this Agreement is to provide the U.S. Navy with a comprehensive field study and report of the foraging activities of the federally endangered California Least Tern (Sternula antillarum browni, CLT) in and around San Diego Bay, California. The proposed Agreement would provide for a comprehensive field study to evaluate California least tern foraging patterns in San Diego Bay and near shore waters, the documentation of any observed mortality (date, source, location/nest #) of eggs, chicks, fledglings or adults, as well as any pertinent information on the circumstances surrounding that mortality, the recording of observed disturbances (i.e. types of reactions, duration away from the nest, abandonment of nest or colony, predation upon nest due to absence of adult, etc.) due to human activities on site, the banding of all CLT captured for this study in accordance with the procedures defined in the USFWS endangered species and BBL banding permits, and the preparation and submittal of various reports and data.
