Grant Description
American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius is a major initiative to acquaint Americans in all 50 states with the best of their cultural and artistic legacy. This component will celebrate the collaborative genius, evolution, diversity, and cultural contribution of the American musical theater and enable Americans in communities across the nation to experience musical theater work of the highest quality. Grants will be awarded in two areas: 1) Home-based or touring performances of masterworks. 2) Touring, by a limited number of organizations, of masterworks to three to five college and university presenters, with special consideration given to engagements in communities that traditionally do not have access to professional musical theater. The Arts Endowments support will be directed to costs associated with touring including production design, artists fees, and travel. It is anticipated that Arts Endowment funds will allow the touring organizations to reduce their fees to presenters. Productions for both home-based or touring performances and touring to college and university presenters may be drawn from the full canon of major and lesser known American musical theater masterworks. The Arts Endowment plans to support a variety of projects that reflect the breadth of the genre and its artistic, historical, and cultural significance. See the full Program Announcement for details.
