Grant Description
The NEA Arts Journalism Institute in Dance will expose journalists who cover that discipline for print and broadcast media to great performances by internationally renowned companies. The journalists also will participate in lectures and course work with distinguished faculty, administrators, and artists in arts skills, criticism, concepts and trends in the field. The institute is particularly interested in attracting journalists who live and work outside the countrys major news markets. Their participation in the institute will have benefit for them personally and for the media outlets for which they write. In addition, better informed journalists will offer readers, listeners, and viewers outside of major metropolitan areas more and better information on the arts and cultural participation. Informed arts coverage encourages people to think more creatively about their own cultural horizons, as well as those of their children. Likewise, it puts news organizations in stronger positions to lead the way in stimulating the cultural and civic vitality of their communities.
