Grant Description
This project supports the administration of the NEA Career Development Programs for Theater Directors and Designers that enable emerging stage directors and lighting, scenic, costume, and sound designers to work with experienced theater artists through residencies or other mentoring relationships. Participating individuals have the opportunity to develop their artistic skills while contributing to the nonprofit theater field and its audiences. Participating theaters have the opportunity to help develop the careers of directors and designers who hold the potential for making significant contributions to America's nonprofit professional arts. The Arts Endowment plans to award a single grant of up to $380,000 to one organization to administer the tenth round of the NEA Career Development Programs for Theater Directors and Designers. The grantee organization's responsibilities will include soliciting and overseeing a process to select participants; developing, coordinating, and monitoring participants' assignments; developing and coordinating professional engagement opportunities for participants; promoting the Career Development Programs and participants to the theater field; and disbursing stipends to participants. Although the Career Development Programs will operate concurrently, specific project activities for directors and designers will differ and applicants should consider them as two separate programs. The project will provide a minimum of six directors and six designers with stipends of $22,500 each and with a variety of career opportunities and placements designed to enrich each participant's creative experience.
