NIBIB Quantum Projects: Exploratory Phase I (R01): -Purpose. The goal of the Quantum Program is to develop innovative biomedical technologies with the potential for a profound (quantum) impact on the detection, prevention, diagnosis or treatment of a major disease or public health problem, compared with present-day approaches. This announcement for a three-year Phase I award will support pilot studies to establish the feasibility to thereafter achieve a clinically applicable technology within 8-10 years of the Phase I award. The modifications in this reissued RFA consist of a greater emphasis on the magnitude of the targeted healthcare impacts, a new funding mechanism, expanded review and responsiveness criteria, requirement for electronic submission, allowance for applications from multiple-PIs, and different agency contacts. -Mechanism of Support. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will utilize the R01 grant mechanism for Phase I awards. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. NIBIB anticipates commitment of up to $5,000,000 in FY2007 for this program, and that five to seven awards will be made.
