Additional Information on Eligibility
Eligible agencies of the Federal Government are eligible to apply. Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply. Organizations should have academically-oriented divisions of maternal-fetal medicine and a minimum of 2,700 births per year with a minimum of 30 percent documented to be high risk pregnancies. A large majority of patients with obstetric complications who deliver in the MFMU must also receive prenatal care at the institution. The need for continuous and active communication among sites dictates that only institutions in the United States are eligible to apply.
Grant Description
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) invites applications from investigators willing to participate with the NICHD under a cooperative agreement in an ongoing multi-center clinical program designed to investigate problems in clinical obstetrics, particularly those related to prevention of low birth weight, prematurity, and medical problems of pregnancy. - The NICHD intends to commit approximately $10.3 million in total costs (Direct plus Facilities and Administrative costs) in FY 2006 to fund 13 to 16 new and/or competing continuation grants in response to this RFA. - An applicant may request a project period of up to five years and a budget for direct costs up to $180,000 per year. - This funding opportunity will use the NIH Cooperative Clinical Research (U10) award mechanism. - An investigator may submit an application if his/her institution has any of the following characteristics: For-profit or non-profit organizations, public or private institutions, such as universities, colleges, hospitals, and laboratories, Units of State and local governments, eligible agencies of the Federal government. - Eligible principal investigators include any individual with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH programs. - A workshop on the RFA will be held on February 9, 2005 in conjunction with the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine meeting in Reno, NV.
