NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD - Patterns and Trends of Lead Concentrations in Bald Eagle Nestlings and Fish in the Upper Midwestern U.S.: This Funding Announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service (NPS), intention to fund the following project activities without competition. OVERVIEW: The goal of this project is to analyze available data on concentrations of lead in fish and bald eagle nestlings from nine national park areas, prepare a manuscript for submission to a scientific journal, summarize these findings for park managers and the public, and provide data for use in the classroom. STATEMENT OF JOINT OBJECTIVES/PROJECT MANAGEMENT PLAN: In this project our goal is to analyze data collected on lead concentrations in two sentinel species over a six year period at nine national parks in the upper Midwest. Due to fiscal year funding constraints, this project will be carried out in two phases. In Phase 1, the data will be analyzed and summarized in tables and charts useful for review and for internal NPS management decisions. In phase 2 we will interpret the findings and present them more broadly to science peers, educators, and the public.
