- Applicants must clearly demonstrate: a) existing, in-house expertise in elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation issues; b) existing, in-house experience in operating a large resource center serving state-wide, regional, or national audience and stakeholders; c) existing, in-house capacity to run a national resource center that provides technical assistance and conducts activities on a wide array of programs and efforts to address elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation, including multidisciplinary teams; public awareness; research; direct services; training; and other prevention, intervention, or remediation efforts.
- Grant Description
- Established in Section 202(d) of the OAA in 1992, the NCEA serves as a national resource center dedicated to the prevention of elder mistreatment. The NCEA provides relevant information, materials, and support to enhance state and local efforts to prevent and address elder mistreatment. NCEA disseminates information to professionals and the public, and it provides technical assistance and training to states and to community-based organizations. The NCEA makes available news and resources; collaborates on research; provides consultation, education, and training; identifies and provides information about promising practices and interventions; answers inquiries and requests for information; and operates a listserve forum for professionals. NCEA also facilitates the exchange of strategies for uncovering and prosecuting fraud and scams targeted at seniors. Section 202(d)(2) establishes the minimum requirements for the NCEA: a) Annually compile, publish, and disseminate a summary of recently conducted research on elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.b) Develop and maintain an information clearinghouse on all programs (including private programs) showing promise of success for the prevention, identification, and treatment of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.c) Compile, publish, and disseminate training materials for personnel who are engaged or intend to engage in the prevention, identification, and treatment of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.d) Provide technical assistance to State agencies and to other public and nonprofit private agencies and organizations to assist the agencies and organizations in planning, improving, developing, and carrying out programs and activities relating to the special problems of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.e) Conduct research and demonstration projects regarding the causes, prevention, identification, and treatment of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
