Non-Metallic Matrials Research Thrust (NMMRT), Consortium for Nanomaterials for Aerospace Commerce and Technology (CONTACT): The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) seeks a research program with a team of universities that addresses the fundamental hurdles inhibiting the utilization of nanoscience and nanotechnology opportunities to four areas of aerospace application: 1. Dynamic, Responsive Materials and Surface Engineering; 2. Nanoparticles for Fuel Additives; 3. Electromagnetic Sensors; and 4. Power Generation and Energy Storage. As the scope of the program is sufficiently diverse , it is unlikely that all areas would be resident in a single university; hence, it is anticipated that the successful proposal will involve a consortium of universities or a team of universities organized with one member acting as the prime recipient and the other members acting as subrecipients. The goal of this program is to foster collaboration among the team of universities that will include the shared use of state-of-the-art facilities, ample student involvement, and collaboration with both AFRL and industry. It is anticipated that the program will have substantial involvement with AFRL and industry in the form of technical meetings, visits to AFRL sites, and industry plants.
