Notice of Intent - Rush Hicks Site Digital Interpretation: The goal of this project is to complete a digital reconstruction of the Rush Hicks Historic Site at the Buffalo National River. A 3-Dimensional digital reconstruction will be augmented by historic documentation, photographs, articles, and recordings and will be uploaded into a website that will help the park tell the story of this significant area. Current interpretation of the Rush mining district consists of trails and interpretive panels concentrated up the road from Hicks site at the Morningstar Mine cluster, where several houses and a store still stand. As with most of the valley, no interpretive features are located at the Hicks site, and reforestation, combined with the loss of most of the area’s built elements, makes it difficult for visitors to grasp the historic character of Rush. Hicks Site Digital Interpretation seeks to begin to remedy this situation through a web-based pilot project that will provide a wealth of information via mobile and desktop devices. This new website will feature a 3D digital reconstruction of the Hicks property set in the early 20th century, based on primary sources and a detailed Historic Resource Documentation conducted in 2006.
