Notice of Intent: Support and Improvement of ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System for the US West Coast 2019-2021: Notice of Intent to award four collaborative cooperative agreements to the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Washington, the University of Oregon, and the California Institute of Technology in support of the project entitled "Support and Improvement of ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System for the US West Coast 2019-2021". The main objective of these cooperativeagreements is to continue and further the Earthquake Hazards Program'scollaborative research project to operate, support, improve and expand theability of seismic and geodetic networks in high-risk areas of the U.S. toprovide warnings of earthquakes when strong shaking has begun, so that property damage, injury, and loss of life canbe reduced in affected areas. This phase will support further testing of the system, improvingseismic algorithms, completing integration of geodetic algorithms, creation oftools to monitor the system and manage users, expanding network coveragethrough building new stations and upgrading existing stations and associatedcommunications systems, encouraging private-sector creation of EEWapplications, and developing coordinated training and education.
