Notice of Intent: Traditional Use Study â¿¿ Phase II: The Alibates Flint Quarries NM (ALFL) Traditional Use Study (TUS) will identify and document ethnographic resources and places used by members of traditional communities that have historical or cultural association with ALFL. An ethnographic resource is defined here as any natural or cultural resource, landscape, or natural feature linked by a subject ethnic community to the traditional practices, values, beliefs, history and/or ethnic identity of that community. This TUS will document traditional, historic, and on-going community use of, natural and/or cultural resources and places of cultural significance (i.e. specific locations, plant/mineral/animal species, specific cultural resource sites, etc.). The purpose of this project will be to document the specific uses of traditional resources associated with ALFL, but also to document the contemporary cultural basis for these uses. A TUS is collaborative by design, and the participating cultural communities will have a significant role in all aspects of the project. This project will provide information to work more directly and effectively with traditionally associated and distinct cultural communities, to provide information for park planning, interpretation, and general resource management.
