Notice of Intent to Award to Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indians: The Santa Rosa Indian Reservation (Reservation) spans over approximately 11,021 acres of federal trust lands within Riverside County, California. The Reservation is under the jurisdiction of the Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indians (Recipient). A majority of the rural land is undistributed and covered in natural vegetation. The Reservation is situated at the headwaters of the drainage basins of the Santa Ana River Basin and the Colorado River Basin. In 2015, the Palm Canyon Dam was restored, creating a reservoir to capture water from the Palm Canyon Creek. The Palm Canyon Dam Reservoir (Reservoir) serves as a benefit to the ecosystem and the community. The primary focus of this project is to mitigate erosion and sediment issues and to restore habitat surrounding the Reservoir. This project will include the removal of invasive plant materials, planting of native trees, and addressing erosion and sediment issues. These efforts will improve the overall habitat which will benefit the wildlife, recreational, aesthetic and ecological values of the area. Restoration efforts will also provide the Santa Rosa people an area near water for cultural activities, similarly to that of their ancestors.
