Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP): This announcement solicits applications for the Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP) to increase the number of qualified nursing faculty.  The NFLP provides funding to schools of nursing to support the establishment and operation of a distinct, interest-bearing NFLP loan fund.

Participating schools of nursing make loans from the fund to assist registered nurses in completing their graduate education to become qualified nurse faculty.  The program offers loan cancellation of up to 85 percent for borrowers that graduate and serve as full-time nursing faculty for the prescribed period of time.

Accredited schools of nursing are eligible to apply for funding.  Eligible schools must offer educator coursework within (as part of) an advanced education nursing degree program(s) that will prepare the graduate student to teach.

The goal of the program is to provide financial support to registered nursing students who desire to become nurse educators.  The inclusion of educator-focused coursework and practicum components offered as part of the graduate degree programs are intended to prepare students for teaching opportunities in higher education and to make the role transition successfully.  NFLP graduates are eligible to teach as nurse educators at the tertiary, secondary and higher education level nursing degree programs.  The program includes a statutory priority to increase the number of doctorally prepared nurse educator to teach at higher levels in academia.
