Grant Description: -Purpose. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits Research Project Grant (R01) applications from domestic or foreign institutions to examine the impact of food and nutrition on prevention, care and treatment of HIV-infected and -affected women, infants, and children. The goal of this program is to further understanding of the relationship between nutrition and HIV infection. This FOA is intended to stimulate and strengthen a multidisciplinary approach to a complex, under-researched area and to form a basis for future research and clinical care. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA utilizes the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of complementary scientific scope (RFA-HD-07-023) that solicits applications under the NIH Small Grant (R03) mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NICHD intends to commit approximately $2 million to support six to eight awards in FY 2008. The NIMH intends to contribute $300,000 to support one R01 application under this FOA. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
