Additional Information on Eligibility: Applicants are limited to states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized tribal governments (as determined by the Secretary of the Interior and published in the Federal Register), acting together or through agreements with other public and private entities. Applicants must demonstrate that they have the management and financial capabilities to effectively plan and implement projects of the size and scope described in the grant announcement. Faith- and community-based, nonprofit, and for-profit agencies are ineligible as applicants, but OJJDP encourages them to partner with eligible applicants as a community provider of services, if applicable and appropriate. OJJDP welcomes joint applications from two or more eligible applicants; however, one applicant must be clearly indicated as the primary applicant (for correspondence, award, and management purposes) and the others indicated as co-applicants.
Grant Description: The purpose of the Family Drug Courts Program is to build the capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized Indian tribal governments to either implement new drug courts or enhance pre-existing drug courts for substance-abusing adults involved with the family dependency court as a result of child abuse and neglect issues. Applicants must provide services to the children of the parents in the program as well as to the parents. The program provides seed money, not long-term support. OJJDP expects successful applicants to develop and implement a sustainability plan during the grant period to continue operation of the family drug court when the grant ends. The program is authorized under 42 U.S.C. 3797u et seq.
