OVC FY 16 Using Telemedicine Technology to Enhance Access to Sexual Assault Forensic Exams: This program will seek applications to develop state-wide telemedicine programs to deliver expert SANE guidance and support to medical professionals conducting sexual assault forensic exams in state correctional facilities or publicly-funded university campus health centers. This program furthers the Department’s mission by providing 24-hour live access to expert Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners who will use cutting edge audio-visual technology to walk a health care provider in a correctional facility or campus health center through a forensic medical examination.

Two communities that face myriad challenges in responding to sexual assault are prisons and institutions of higher education. Each may benefit from the use of telemedicine to improve the delivery of sexual assault forensic exams. OVC is committed to improving care for sexual assault victims through the funding of telemedicine programs at the State level to serve either correctional facilities or universities and colleges.
