Ozarks and Ouachita Landscape and Watershed Restoration Crew: This announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service's intention to award financial assistance for the following project activities. The Ozarks and Ouachita Landscape and Watershed Conservation Team will work with the National Park Service to restore landscapes and watersheds, primarily in the Ozarks and Ouachita region of Arkansas and Missouri which includes with national parks. This area of the country includes interior highlands with rivers and streams as well transition areas between central hardwood forests and Eastern prairies. For this reason, much of the work will focus on glade, savanna, and woodland restoration. These treatments typically involve the removal of Eastern redcedar as well as other small diameter stems to create more open forest conditions. Herbicides may also be used to control invasive plants as well as woody brush in grasslands. Forests and prairies may also be planted as needed. This work will center on 8 parks, including one prairie park and one park in the underserved Arkansas delta. The public purposes of the project are to: 1) introduce young adults to natural resource 2) allow young adults to actively participate in managing national parks, 3) provide an opportunity to develop work and leadership skills in a challenging outdoor environment, and 4) improve the condition of landscapes and watersheds within parks for public to have a safe experience.
