Grant Description
The purpose of the agreement is to provide funds through the National Fish Passage Program to the State to construct a fish passage structure on the La Plata River, San Juan County, New Mexico. The fish passage structure will reconnect the habitat that has been fragmented by barriers, thereby improving the conservation status of round tail chub Gila robusta. The objective of the project is to benefit the native fish community of La Plata River through increased longitudinal movement. Removal of barriers to fish movement through construction of a fish passage structure on the newly constructed Pickering ditch diversion structure will allow roundtail chub to access areas of greater habitat quality and permanent flow.
