Paul B. Additional Information on Eligibility: Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply. You cannot hold the BCDA concurrently with another NIH career development award or similar award. You must terminate that other award in order to receive the BCDA. Normally support from the prior career development award and support from the BCDA should add to no more than five years. Requests for time beyond five years of total career award support (including requests for competing renewals of BCDAs) must be justified by indicating changes in circumstances, such as a change of institution, or a change in research direction that requires additional mentoring. The sponsoring institution must have a well-established research and clinical career development program. It must also have faculty experienced in research on aging and geriatrics to serve as mentors.
