Pediatric Heart Network: - The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) invites applications to participate in the Pediatric Heart Network (PHN), a cooperative network of pediatric cardiovascular clinical research centers. The goal of the Network is to promote the evaluation of novel treatments and management strategies for children and adults with congenital heart defects and for children with inflammatory heart disease, heart muscle disease, and arrhythmias. - A maximum of seven awards will be made for Clinical Centers and one award for a Data Coordinating Center. About $30 million (total costs) over 5 years will be awarded. It is anticipated that the annual award for the Data Coordinating Center will be approximately $2,653,000 direct costs which includes patient care funds of $1,205,000 direct costs for all Network studies. The maximum annual amount for each Clinical Center will be $200,000 direct costs. - A maximum of two Clinical Skills Development Core awards will be made for up to $100,000 per year (direct costs). - The cooperative agreement (U01) administrative and funding mechanism of support will be used. - Eligible organizations include domestic or Canadian, for profit and non-profit, public and private institutions such as universities, colleges, hospitals, laboratories, faith-based or community-based organizations, units of state and local governments, and eligible agencies of the federal government. - Eligible principal investigators include those with the experience and expertise to conduct clinical studies in congenital and acquired heart disease. The disciplines and expertise that may be appropriate for this program are pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, pediatric cardiovascular surgery, pediatric critical care, pediatric anesthesiology, pediatric cardiovascular imaging, pediatric cardiovascular nursing, clinical trials management and biostatistics. - Awards for a Clinical Center and a Data Coordinating Center will not be made to the same Principal Investigator to ensure that data analysis is performed independently of data acquisition. The same institution may apply for both a Clinical Center and the Data Coordinating Center award, but the applications for each must be from different individuals and must be submitted as separate applications. - Applications must be prepared using the PHS 398 application form which can be downloaded at (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/phs398.html) - Telecommunications for the hearing impaired is available at: TTY 301-451-0088

Eligible agencies of the Federal Government are eligible to apply. Foreign applications are limited to Canada due to Canada's proximity to the NIH which will accommodate the frequent conference calls and meetings needed to coordinate the network.
