Phase II of the Pilot Long Term Care Awareness Campaign: The Department of Health and Human Services announces the solicitation of applications from states and territories to participate in the demonstration project of the second pilot phase of the Long-Term Care Awareness Campaign. Approximately five to ten states will be competitively selected (with a total population of approximately 5 million households in the target market). The Campaign is a federal and state partnership to promote increased awareness of the need to plan for future long-term care needs. The partnership does not involve any transfer of funds between states and the federal government. In planning for retirement and old age, many individuals underestimate both the risks and costs of long-term care. Prior research has shown that many individuals do not want to think about the risks of disability and the possible need for assistance with everyday activities. The Department of Health and Human Services has designed and implemented a Long-Term Care Pilot Awareness Campaign to promote increased awareness among recent retirees and pre-retirees about the need to plan ahead for future long-term care needs.
