Phenology Road Show: MERITO Academy Program Field Visits: Six hundred 4th-8th grade students will learn about and implement bird and plant phenology monitoring activities at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and Ormond Beach instructed by California State University -Channel Islands students, the Nature Conservancy, Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary MERITO Academy staff and Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office staff during the 2011-2012 school year, which will contribute to a national effort to collect climate change species related data (for Project BudBurst, eBird, and others). All students are enrolled in Title 1 schools in Ventura County, are largely minorities (>85%), and currently under-represented in STEM fields.
