They are dedicated to formulating and influencing sound public health policy and to assuring excellence in state-based public health practice.  The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). NACCHO is the national organization representing local health departments. NACCHO supports efforts that protect and improve the health of all people and all communities by promoting national policy, developing resources and programs, seeking health equity, and supporting effective local public health practice and systems.  The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE): SOPHE is an independent, international professional association made up of a diverse membership of health education professionals and students. The organization promotes healthy behaviors, healthy communities, and healthy environments.  Directors of Health Promotion and Education (DHPE): DPHEs mission is to promote the quality practice of health education and health promotion as core disciplines of public health practice and to advocate for quality health education/health promotion programs and strategies to address the nation's leading health problems. DHPE represents 55 directors of health education/health promotion units.  American Association for Health Education (AAHE): AAHEs mission is to advance the profession by serving health educators and others who strive to promote the health of all people through education and other systematic strategies.  National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC): NPHIC is the network of public health communicators in the United States and U.S. territories committed to "making public health public" by sharing knowledge, expertise and resources to effectively communicate about the important health issues of the day helping people lead healthier lives in healthier communities.  American Public Health Association (APHA): APHA is the oldest and most diverse organization of public health professionals in the world, and has been working to improve public health since 1872. APHA and its state affiliates represent over 50,000 health professionals and others who work to promote health, prevent disease, and ensure conditions in which we all can be safe and healthy.
Grant Description
This project is an expansion of CDC Funding Opportunity Announcement Number HM06-602: Development and Support of a National Public Health Information Infrastructure Cooperative Agreement. The purpose of this Cooperative Agreement is to develop a collaborative of professional public health communicators and social marketers, of which CDC is part, to benefit both the general public and public health organizations. The Cooperative Agreement will support a highly professional community of practice; build capacity among public health communication professionals; and foster strategic collaboration, communication plans, and activities that engage the general public and improve health nationwide.
