Program Category 01D: Clean Cities CoalitionSupport: The goal of the U.S. Department of Energy apos;s(DOE apos;s) Clean Cities initiative isto decrease the nation?s dependence on petroleum in the transportationsectorthrough public/private Clean Cities partnerships formed around the countryby:Accelerating the development of a sustainable alternative fuels marketAccelerating the use of idle reduction technologiesAccelerating the use of hybrid vehiclesIncreasing the use of alternative fuel blends in petroleum fuelsPromoting informed consumer choice on fuel economy**Since fuel economy strategies will be implemented at the national level,coalitions are not expected to devote time and resources to promoteinformedconsumer choice on fuel economy.The Clean Cities initiative is offering coalition support funding toactive,officially-designated (or officially-approved for designation) Clean Citiescoalitions. This funding is offered to ensure that local Clean Citiescoalitions are vibrant and active, with the ability to reduce the use ofpetroleum in their community.
