Grant Description
The Protecting Inmates and Safeguarding Communities Program, a result of the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003, supports states in their efforts to prevent and eliminate prisoner rape between inmates in state and local correctional facilities and to safeguard the communities to which inmates return. Some of the uses for funding include prevention and intervention, investigation and prosecution, victim services, direct treatment and continuity of services for juveniles and adults, and identification of community resources to which offenders return. States may submit one application for: 1) Protecting Inmates; 2) Safeguarding Communities; or 3) both. Special interest areas for this solicitation include a focus on female and juvenile offenders, rape in local correctional facilities, stakeholder collaboration, and faith-based and community organization support for prevention and safeguarding strategies.
