Public Education Efforts to Increase Solid Organ and Tissue Donation: The purpose of this program is to support implementation and replication and evaluation of public education strategies that have been identified through the Division of Transplantation's research grant program or the public health literature as being effective in promoting health behavior change. This grant program is supportive of the Division's efforts to educate the public about the need for organ and tissue donation and to encourage positive donation decisions and documentation in State donor registries or in other ways where registries do not exist.

- "Eligible applicants include Federally-designated organ procurement organizations (OPOs) and other non-profit private or public entities eligible for funds under Section 377A(b) of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act, 42 U.S.C. Section 274f-1(b). State and local governments, Indian Tribal Governments, institutions of higher education, faith-based and community organizations, Tribal organizations, and other non profit organizations are eligible to apply for these grants. For profit organizations may participate in a grant project as a subcontractor or consortium member, but are not eligible to apply as the applicant institution. the Secretary may make peer-reviewed grants to public and nonprofit private entities, including Tribes, Tribal Organizations, faith-based and community based organizations. The application must represent a consortium of a least two types of organizations, a transplant-related organization and an evaluation related organization.
