- USAID/Peru seeks to develop innovative alliances that decrease malnutrition (chronic and micronutrient malnutrition, particularly anemia) in children in support of the Government of Peru's malnutrition (CRECER) strategy (see attached background information). The alliance will stimulate and encourage action by regional and local governments to increase effectiveness of their nutrition programs. USAID will give priority to innovative, private-sector driven interventions including, but not limited to, the following examples: nutrition education, Micronutrient administration, improved water and sanitation (i.e. - handwashing, access to potable water, etc.), improved household practices (i.e. - improved kitchens, etc.), food access (particularly high biological protein sources), and increased access to quality healthcare (including prenatal care, treatment and prevention of childhood illnesses such as diarrhea and respiratory infections, etc.).
