Recovering Iraq's Past: Request for Proposals to Preserve and Document Iraq's Cultural Heritage: NEH invites proposals for projects to preserve and document cultural resources in Iraq?s archives, libraries, and museums. Projects can also disseminate information relating to the materials and bibliographic records of civilization in Iraq from the earliest times to the present. Projects should focus on resources, which, because of their intellectual content and value as cultural artifacts, are considered highly important for research, education, and public programming in the humanities. This initiative continues NEH's longstanding history of support for humanities scholarship to advance knowledge and understanding of Mesopotamia, the region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in present-day Iraq. Projects should have specific goals and measurable results. On-site work in Iraq is contingent upon security. Collaboration between Iraqi and American professionals is encouraged whenever appropriate. Types of activities supported: the stabilization, conservation, or preservation of public cultural collections in Iraq; * preparation of inventories or catalogs and the arrangement and description or cataloging of collections in Iraq; * the digitization of records or objects relating to Iraq's cultural heritage located in Iraqi or U.S. institutions; * preservation surveys or assessments of humanities resources as well as historic and archaeological sites in Iraq; and * preservation education and training to Iraqi nationals in Iraq.
