Regional Technology Transfer Accelerator Hubs for IDeA States (STTR) (UT2 - Clinical Trial Not Allowed): The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide opportunities for eligible U.S. small business concerns (SBCs), in collaboration with academic partners, to conduct research to develop, implement, and test a comprehensive program for promoting biomedical entrepreneurship, technology (tech) transfer, management, small business finance, and other business skills needed to move basic discoveries and technologies out of the lab and into commercial products that improve patient care and enhance human health. This would be done by regional tech transfer accelerator hubs created by the awardee SBCs in partnership with academic institutions in Institutional Development Award (IDeA) states (https://www.nigms.nih.gov/Research/CRCB/IDeA/Pages/default.aspx). Each accelerator hub program will be expected to serve a network of several institutional sites across the IDeA states in one of the four regions where the academic partners are located. The goal of this FOA is to enhance the capacity to move scientific results from academic institutions into commercialization and promote a sustainable culture of biomedical entrepreneurship within IDeA states. The product of the funded research will be educational tools i.e., curricula, texts, webinars resulting from the development and testing of research accelerator models. It is anticipated that the educational tools developed under this FOA will be licensed or sold to other institutions that wish to create accelerator hubs.
