Request for Proposals to Develop Small, Traveling Exhibitions: NEH is soliciting proposals for a program to develop smaller, traveling versions of NEH-supported exhibitions. Each year NEH funds a number of long-term exhibitions at single sites and major exhibitions that travel to institutions throughout the United States. The goal of this program is to extend the life of these exhibitions and make them accessible to diverse audiences across the country. Under a cooperative agreement, the awardee will scale down at least four NEH-funded exhibitions and manage the publicity, booking, storage, shipping, insurance, and routine maintenance of the exhibitions for a period of up to three years (36 months). The reconfigured exhibitions ideally will contain artifacts and images from the original exhibitions, and retain their humanities content and intellectual coherence. Because they are intended for smaller venues, the exhibitions should not be larger than 2,000 square feet. The awardee will also be responsible for the preparation and dissemination of appropriate public programming resource materials. The reconfigured exhibitions are intended for use by smaller museums that would not otherwise be able to participate in an NEH project. These kinds of museums include those whose budget or staffing levels might preclude them from easy collaboration with other institutions or whose available exhibition space may be insufficient to handle a typical NEH traveling exhibition.
