Research Centers of Excellence in Pediatric Nephrology (P50): -The emphases for this program are several-fold: (1) to continue to attract new scientific expertise into the study of the basic mechanisms of kidney diseases and disorders among infants, children, and adolescents; (2) to encourage multidisciplinary research focused on the causes of these diseases; 3) to explore new basic areas that may have clinical research application and 4) to design Developmental Research (DR)/Pilot and Feasibility (P and F) studies which should lead to new and innovative approaches to study kidney disease in the pediatric population, and the eventual submission of competitive investigator-initiated R01 research grant applications. These Centers complement the O Brien Kidney and Urological Research Centers.. -The NIDDK plans to issue 2 awards, each at a maximum direct cost of $750,000 per year for 5 years. -This RFA will use the P50 mechanism. -Eligible organizations include domestic for-profit and nonprofit organizations, public or private institutions. -Eligible principal investigators include any individuals with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research. -Applicant organizations may not submit more than one application. -See Section IV.1 for application materials. -Telecommunications for the hearing impaired is available at: TTY 301-451-0088
