Research On Adherence To Interventions For Mental Disorders (R01): Executive Summary -The NIMH encourages research on adherence to interventions for mental disorders. The clinical effectiveness of efficacious interventions for mental disorders is substantially limited by less than optimal adherence to these interventions. Problems of adherence are common across most medical interventions, but are further exacerbated in mental health interventions by the cognitive and motivational deficits often associated with these conditions. Therefore, research is encouraged to further understand the potent and modifiable factors associated with treatment adherence in those with mental disorders and to develop and evaluate strategies to improve adherence to efficacious interventions for mental disorders. -Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the quality, duration, costs, as well as the number of applications received. Funding decisions will reflect the needs, priorities and mission of the funding IC. -This funding opportunity will use the NIH Research Project Grant (R01). Applicants may also seek support for research in the areas described in this funding opportunity through the NIH Small Research Grant (R03) (see http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-06-180.html) and the NIH Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant (R21) (see http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-06-181.html). -Eligible organizations include for-profit organizations, non-profit organizations, public or private institutions, such as universities, colleges, hospitals, and laboratories, units of State government, units of local government, eligible agencies of the Federal government, non-domestic institutions, domestic Institutions, faith-based or community-based organizations, units of State Tribal government, and units of Local Tribal government. -Any individual with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research is invited to work with their institution to develop an application for support. -Applicants may submit more than one application, provided they are scientifically distinct. -See Section IV.1 for application materials. -Telecommunications for the hearing impaired is available at: TTY 301-451-0088.
