Research On The Reduction And Prevention Of Suicidality (R01): -The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite grant applications for research that will reduce the burden of suicidality (deaths, attempts, and ideation). The intent is to intensify investigator-initiated research on the topic, to attract new investigators to the field, and increase interdisciplinary approaches to developing effective strategies to reduce suicidality. -This FOA will use the NIH Research Project Grant (R01), but applications for the Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21); the Small Research Grant (R03), and the NIMH Clinical Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant (R34) are also sought. Applicants for the R21, R03, and R34 award mechanisms must submit their applications electronically and should respond to the Parent FOAs for these mechanisms (NIH R21-PA-06-181; NIH R03-PA-06-180; and the NIMH R34-PA-06-248). -Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the quality, duration, costs, as well as the number of applications received. Funding decisions will reflect the needs, priorities and mission of the funding IC(s).
