- Grant Description
- -Purpose. Obesity has become a major focus of public health efforts at the national, State, and local levels. The major focus of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit projects that enhance the state-of-the-science on the causes of obesity and to inform Federal decision-making on effective public health interventions for reducing the rate of obesity in the United States (U.S.). Research strategies that nest economic analysis within a broader interdisciplinary context of other social and behavioral sciences as well as the epidemiological, biostatistical, medical, and biological disciplines relevant to public health policy are especially encouraged. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism and runs in parallel with an FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-06-292, that solicits applications under the NIH Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
