Response of wildlife to cattle grazing on Red Rock Lakes NWR: This synopsis is the full announcement. The tasks to be performed under this agreement are as follows: 1)Investigate the response of small mammal abundance, survival, and community composition to the frequency of cattle grazing in wet meadow habitats on Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge (hereafter Refuge). 2)Investigate the relationship between breeding season occupancy of cranes and curlews to habitat attributes affected by cattle grazing (e.g., litter depth, vegetation density, and height). 3)Provide refuge-specific recommendations regarding the response of small mammals, cranes and curlews to the current grazing program for development of a refuge habitat management plan. This Single Source Award is being made in accordance with Department of the Interior Policy 505 DM 2.14 B 1, which allows for award without competition to an applicant based on unique qualifications.
