Rooney Dam Fish Passage Improvement, Sacramento County, CA.: Funding is available through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Anadromous Fish Restoration Program to improve fish passage at Rooney Dam on the Cosumnes River in Sacramento County, CA. Rooney Dam is a small flashboard dam owned and operated by the Omochumne-Hartnell Water District. In its current condition, a steep four foot drop over large boulders at the downstream face of the dam creates a significant barrier to upstream migration. The proposed project will eliminate this migration barrier by constructing a four tiered boulder weir structure creating jumping pools with jumps of no more than one-foot from the normal low water surface elevation below to dam to the upstream dam pool. - Eligible applicants are limited to those institutions, organizations or individuals with a background in fluvial geomorphology, engineering, and fishery biology. Eligible applicants should possess experience and qualifications in the restoration of fish passage, river riparian habitat and floodplain restoration in California streams and rivers. Applications from federal agencies or employees of federal agencies cannot be considered. Special consideration will be given to applicants that possess experience and qualifications in the restoration of anadromous fish and floodplain habitats in Californias Central Valley rivers and streams, especially those with knowledge and experience in Cosumnes River salmon restoration.
