Save the Franciscan Manzanita: This Task Agreement will facilitate collaboration on conservation efforts to assist in the recovery of the endangered Franciscan Manzanita (Arctostaphylos franciscana). The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has identified areas in the Presidio as critical habitat for this species. This collaboration will further the goals of endangered species recovery through propagation and installation of appropriate native plants, removal of invasive species, and biological monitoring. The expected outcome is to establish viable, genetically diverse, and self-sustaining wild populations of Franciscan manzanita within restored maritime chaparral within designated critical habitat areas. This work will provide a foundation for continued efforts to save the Franciscan Manzanita from extinction.
