Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students: This program promotes diversity among health professions students and practitioners by providing scholarships for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Eligible health professions and nursing schools apply for funds to make scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, whom have financial need for scholarships and are enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, as full-time students at the schools. **This program is not included in the President's budget for FY 2006 at this amount. The President's FY 2006 budget has this program at $9,831,000. - School/program must have a program for recruiting and retaining disadvantaged students and meet the SDS eligibility criteria described below: Students from disadvantaged backgrounds must comprise the following: 1. At least 10% of the total enrollment (full-time students) of your program (e.g., dentistry, baccalaureate nursing) during AY 2004-1005 (7/1/04-6/30/05). 2. At least 10% of the total graduates (full-time students) of your program during AY 2005-2005 (7/1/04-6/30/05). In addition, in order to be eligible to receive SDS funding, a school must have at least one economically disadvantaged student enrolled and graduated during AY 2004-2005.
